Interest peaked in Jolly Phonics as a method for improving literacy levels.

Jolly Phonics trainers felt that the low literacy levels in many Ugandan schools could be improved through the use of the Jolly Phonics program. In 2017, the first Jolly Phonics pilot was successfully conducted in 6 schools in Masaka Municipality. The impact of this pilot for improving pupils' literacy levels and English language skills was notably appreciated by teachers and local education officers. It was recognised as an effective way of helping learners to achieve reading and writing independence at a very early stage. Due to these amazing results, over the course of just a year, many other pilots were accepted in different areas of the country.
